Site LatestWhen Damon was a radio jockIn 1995 I hosted the evening show 6-10 Monday to Friday on Kent's 'Cruise FM' - an RSL station that went off air at midnight on December 31 that year. "quality music" was our strapline. Some of the DJs on the station went on to bigger and better things, including Luisse Shaw who is now a regular on Invicta FM. Worcester College MemoriesNow known as 'RNIB New College, Worcester', I found myself at this school at the age of 13 in 1984 right through until 1991. Being a blind school, you are less likely to be judged on your looks, your clothes or your car ... and more likely to be judged on how good your stereo setup is, your voice, how good a DJ you are ... or how good your album is!. I've recently unearthed some tracks that I and a group of pals decided to put together; yes we made a mini album. It was the Worcester way, everyone made albums, well some did. You'll be impressed to note that I've digitally remastered them to take any hiss away - I was quite chuffed with myself over this actually. So here are the tracks ... You keep me hanging on like a sperm whale - sung by Claire Pearson and Steve Budden. Kim Wilde meets Douglas Adams, if ya like. It's Mo - As sung by a parody of Mrs Such (now the acting head of the college, I believe and known as Mrs Smith). It was the early days of email and the PC at Worcester and Mrs Such often used to ask Mo (Mohammed Valli) advice on how to use it. Mo was a bit of a wide boy techno geek, you see. We noted after a while that Mo had developed a teeny weeny crush on the big lady though ... and wondered if it were so the other way round. There's more to this story, I'll eventually create a page of Worcester memories. Justify My Love - Madonna shouldn't be too worried at our ripoff of her early 90s song with a dark and completely non sexual edge to it. Mo is the vocal talent here, Claire on the heavy breathing, Damon on the spazzy sounds. Thank God for Dinky Dino - our homage to Worcester's (then) best pizza delivery company. Strangely it never made it onto Wyvern FM as the officially endorsed commercial for the good people of Dinky Dino - even after Mo played it to the delivery bloke once and he liked it and everyfing. I played keyboards on all of these amazingly and in places I flatter myself into thinking that it sounds kinda OK. Why did we make albums at our boarding school for 'the blind'? Well, we had to do something to avoid the paedophiles. TOPS magazineRead my memories of TOPS magazine - a little remembered mag from the early 80s that i used to read and love.
